About
About my life and passion
My name is Valentina Battorti, I was born in Belluno, Italy, in 1983. My dad watched movies all the time and made me watch everything from Gremlins to Goonies to Little shop of horrors, Ghost, Pretty woman… through the eighties, then the 90s, then my love for films was complete and I started watching what I wanted… and then longing to be part of that!! I like to draw, read, sing, write, listen to music, watch Tv series, theatre, films of all kinds and I’ve always wanted to find a way to reunite all of these media to tell stories, so.. films!! I love to share my ideas and work and see the reaction of the audience, of friends, family, and see if I can make them laugh, cry, get frightened or super happy with a story, with a soundtrack.. it’s magic!
The Inspirations
About my movies and the inspiration for making it
H. PIPPI LOVECRAFT
I was at the brilliant H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival, immersed all day long in movies and shorts about the cosmic horror legendary writer, and I thought: “What would happen if he was thrown in the mix with Pippi Longstocking?” This because I very often watch the tv series of Pippi, being it so cozy and relaxing to watch. So she was on my mind. And I said, Yes, it would be an interesting match! I would like to watch it. The movie is the very last of mine, still in post production, and no one has seen it yet. But it already has my heart! I can’t wait to see what the audience will think about it.
WHISTLE, AND I’LL COME TO YOU
M. R. James is one of my very favorite writers and this ghost tale in particular was one of my most treasured. It had to be my choice for a third film to make. And the black and white coloring followed in the most simple way. It just screamed black and white images. With very few dialogues and lots of atmosphere to convey the horror happening, it was a movie centered on feelings, landscapes and music. I loved every single second of it. I wish i could live at the Globe Inn in winter by the seaside all year round.
AMORE TRA I POLLI (love among the chickens)
I read this P. G. Wodehouse book when I was 15, and I loved it since then. I thought it was the perfect second film to make. It had a mix of comedy and elegance in its pages that I wanted to capture, plus it was set in 1900 and I just made “The undomestic goddess”, which was all cell phones and lawyers. “Love among the chickens” came as a breath of fresh air, with countryside landscapes, animals, 1900 costumes and gorgeous dresses.. It was incredibly funny to just be there, on set, with everyone dressed up as English ladies and gentlemen. Amazing!
LA REGINA DELLA CASA (the undomestic goddess)
I read the book, I lllloved it and thought: “This is great for a movie!” I tried and called friends and fanily and friends’ friends and it had a cast of 120 people!!! It was FANTASTIC and my very first round as a director and writer and also main actor, since there had to be an actress in each scene of the film, which I created from her perspective. And so I became Samantha Sweeting. One of the most heartwarming experiences of my life!
